With a higher native resolution of 3072 x 1920 as compared to the 15-inch model, the new 16-inch display also has slightly higher pixel density at 226 ppi. That being said, the new display still has the same maximum brightness level of 500 nits and P3 wide colour gamut. Another new hardware that the 16-inch model has brought to the table is a brand-new Magic Keyboard. According to Apple, the keyboard features a refined scissor mechanism with 1mm of key travel and key feel that the company described as “stable”.
The keyboard also utilizes a rubber dome that was designed by Apple itself and apparently able to store more potential energy in order to provide responsive key press. The company also pointed out the existence of physical Esc key and inverted-T arrangement for the arrow key on the new keyboard. In terms of processor, the option is still identical to the previous 15-inch model with up to 2.4GHz 9th Gen Intel Core i9 8-core processor. However, Apple has updated the thermal system on the 16-inch model with better fan design that delivers 28% more airflow alongside a heat sink that is 35% larger than the previous model. The 16-inch MacBook Pro can also be fitted with larger memory and storage space than before with up to 64GB DDR4-2666 RAM and 8TB solid state drive. It can also be obtained with up to AMD Radeon Pro 5550M graphics with 8GB GDDR6 VRAM which is also new to the series. It is also interesting to note that the USB-C power adapter Apple has included with the 16-inch MacBook Pro has a higher power rating of 96W. As a comparison, the power rating of the adapter that comes with the 15-inch model is 87W. In terms of pricing, the 16-inch MacBook Pro has the same starting price as per the 15-inch model. Specifically, the base model with 2.6GHz 9th Gen Intel Core i7 6-core processor, AMD Radeon Pro 5300M 4GB graphics, 16GB RAM, and 512GB solid state drive is priced at RM 10,499. Meanwhile, the base option with 2.3GHz 9th Gen Intel Core i9 8-core processor, AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 4GB graphics, 16GB RAM, and 1TB solid state drive is listed at RM 12,199.
Even though Apple has revealed the pricing on its Malaysian website, the new 16-inch MacBook Pro is still not yet available for purchase at the time this article is published. We’ll keep you updated once the company begin to accept orders from Malaysia. (Source: Apple Malaysia – 1, 2.)
