As previously speculated by XDA’s Mishaal Rahman, Vivo confirmed that the phone is using electrochromic glass to achieve the effect. Basically, the technology works by “turning off” the primary colour on the casing’s glass to reveal the secondary colour beneath it. Other instances of electrochromic glass are also seen on the OnePlus Concept One phone, and the “transparent” public toilets in Tokyo that recently went viral on the web. Vivo did not reveal the name of the upcoming smartphone featuring this colour-changing technology and its expected debut is also kept under wraps. However, a different video of the device uploaded by Digital Chat Station on Weibo revealed the device’s camera module, which bears a resemblance to the one found on the Vivo X50 series. The easiest speculation is that this new device is likely a limited/special edition of the X50 smartphone, but it could also be an entirely new model altogether. Seeing that Vivo has begun to tease the new phone, we could expect more details or a full reveal to arrive soon enough. (Source: Vivo [Weibo] / Digital Chat Station)
