Based on the joint statement by both companies, what today’s announcement essentially means is that Shopee users are now officially able to utilise ShopeePay to make payments at physical stores that support DuitNow QR. In other words, ShopeePay can be used beyond the confines of the e-commerce platform itself. You can find the ShopeePay option inside the Me section of the Shopee app and just follow the instructions stated here in order to perform a transaction via DuitNow QR.
Meanwhile, Shopee and PayNet have also revealed that the DuitNow instant fund transfer service will be integrated into ShopeePay e-wallet by June 2021. Once it is made available to users, they will then be able to easily transfer funds between ShopeePay and other banks as well as e-wallets just by using mobile numbers or MyKad ID number. But for now, the attention will be more on the DuitNow QR. Just in time for the official announcement, ShopeePay users are now able to receive a cashback of up to RM 5 when they perform payments via DuitNow QR using the e-wallet. Happening now until 31 January 2021, you do have to spend at least RM 15 in a single transaction though. At this moment, you can take advantage of this promo at 518 outlets throughout the country that are being operated by the 21 participating retailers.
