Partly, this is due to a relatively recent rumour about Sony backing a Silent Hill project. There were also rumours floating around regarding SIE buying the rights to Konami titles. Two major ones come to mind, specifically the Metal Gear series, and the aforementioned Silent Hill series. Konami has since denied the rumours, though the company wasn’t being specific about which rumour it was shooting down.

Especially if it’s supposed to be a response to Microsoft buying ZeniMax. After all, Microsoft is by far the largest company of the four, while ZeniMax is the smallest. And then there’s the matter of Konami being willing to sell in the first place.

Set the IP free. End our torment. — Skill Up (@SkillUpYT) September 21, 2020 For context, in terms of market capitalisation, Microsoft is worth US$1.53 trillion. The next largest of the four is Sony, at JPY10.5 trillion (~US$100.46 billion). This is then followed by Konami at JPY617 billion (~US$5.9 billion). While ZeniMax is a privately held company, its total equity as of 2016 was at US$2.5 billion. (Source: GameRant, Bloomberg)
