The news was broken to a journalist attached to TechRadar, who wrote that it’s looking unlikely that Huawei’s foldable device will see a launch anytime before November. Although in the brand’s defence, it did provide assurance (of sorts) that it is “certain” that the Mate X will be out before 2019 comes to an end. Delaying the launch of its Mate X means that, as of now, Samsung will possibly be beating its Chinese rival with the launch of its foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold, being first to the market. Samsung already announced that it would be launching the phone in September, although it fell short of providing any specific date for it.
Getting back to the Mate X, TechRadar also reports that Huawei’s next iteration of the Mate X could sport more displays, in addition to the foldable display. The site suggests that Huawei could end up swapping the backplates of the Mate X with the display. The concept is similar to ZTE’s recently announce Nubia Z20, but whether or not this idea will work is anybody’s guess. The Huawei Mate X was first announced back in February this year at MWC 2019. The phone, with its patented “Falcon Wing” hinge, is a direct competitor to Samsung’s Galaxy Fold foldable smartphone. It’s display is a plastic OLED panel, but instead of folding inwards, it adopts a reverse folding design that leaves the display exposed.
