On Tuesday, the tech company announced an online event to be held on 24 June. The event promises to reveal “what’s next for Windows.” The event invitation featured an image of what appears to be a new Windows logo, with only two vertical bars of light shining through the window, creating an outline that resembled the number 11. Microsoft then released an animated version of the image, demonstrating that the corporation purposefully omitted the horizontal bars.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said during his keynote at the Build conference, “I’ve been self-hosting it over the past several months, and I’m incredibly excited about the next generation of Windows.” Following the event invite, Microsoft exec Yusuf Mehdi tweeted that he hasn’t “been this excited for a new version of Windows since Windows 95!”. The “new version” mentioned in the tweet further hints at a name change for the operating system. Once again, the event is scheduled to kick off starts at 11AM ET on 24 June.
