One of the updated features to the OnePlus 8T is its display. Instead of the curved panel that’s been employed with both the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro, the 8T uses a flat display. To be clear, it’s still a 6.55-inch OLED panel, and it still has the same 120Hz refresh rate, but it’s clear that OnePlus chose the flat display for the sake of mobile gaming.
On that note, OnePlus also announced that the OnePlus 8T, along with its other OnePlus 8 siblings, will be able to run Epic Games’ Fortnite at 90 fps. In addition to that, the brand has also added a new box in its Game Space mode that enables consumers to seamlessly activate the onboard Fnatic Mode, or just to message your friends quickly. To ask them to join your session.
The specs of the OnePlus 8T are what you expect, and perhaps a little more. You still get the same Snapdragon 865 SoC, up to 12GB RAM, between 128GB and 256GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage capacity, and more importantly, a larger 4500mAh capacity split into two cells. As to why OnePlus has split the battery, it is to accommodate the brand’s super-fast 65W WarpCharge. Having two battery cells within the phone allows the OnePlus 8T to sustainably retain more power, while also allowing it to gain 60% of its battery back with just 15 minutes of charging. Moreover, OnePlus says that the phone battery will still be able to retain 80% of its charge, even after 800 complete charging cycles. To sweeten the pot, OnePlus will bundle the Warp Charge 65 wall charger with every purchase of the OnePlus 8T, and will sell the adapter separately at a later date.
Moving on to the camera, the OnePlus 8T’s main camera module has a new monochrome sensor, but besides that addition, it pretty much retains the same camera modules as the OnePlus 8. This includes the same 48MP main sensor, a 16MP ultrawide that’s been tweaked slightly to have a wider 123° viewing angle, and a 2MP depth sensor. Around the front, the selfie camera at the top still houses a 16MP sensor. OnePlus hasn’t skimped in the software department either. At launch, the OnePlus 8T runs on the latest Oxygen OS 11 that the brand promises will provide the “fastest and smoothest” Android experience. Oh, and the phone will also launch with Android 11 out of the box.
Preorders for the OnePlus 8T starts from today in the EU and US, with general availability slated for 20 October in the EU, and 23 October in the US. Pricing starts from 599 Euros (~RM2922) for the 8GB + 128GB variant, while the 12GB + 256GB model will retail for 699 Euros (~RM3410). In the US, only the latter unit will be available in the country and at a retail price of US$749 (~RM3108). OnePlus will also be selling custom bumper casings for the OnePlus 8T, starting from US$24.99 (~RM103) for the Sandstone design, US$39.99 (~RM166) for the Karbon, and US$34.99 (~RM145) for the special transparent Cyborg Cyan casing.
