— Matt Reeves (@mattreevesLA) November 13, 2019 The Batman is easily one of the most exciting comic book movie projects in recent memory. Serkis joins an already supremely stacked cast consisting of Robert Pattinson (awesome in all the indie movies he’s starred in), who’s set to play the titular caped crusader, Paul Dano (Prisoners) as The Riddler, Zoe Kravitz (Fantastic Beasts) as Catwoman and Jeffrey Wright (Westworld) as Commissioner Gordon. It’s also reported that Colin Ferrel is currently in talks to play another iconic Batman villain, Penguin.

Not only is the cast stacked, but Matt Reeves is also a bloody brilliant director. His work on the latter two Planet of the Apes films, Dawn and War, was simply phenomenal, crafting dense and poetic character dramas that are emotionally affecting. Reeves has said that his Batman film will be a neo-noir that focuses on Batman as the world’s greatest detective, something the vigilante is known for in the comics. This is enticing. Imagine watching a crime-thriller in the vein of David Fincher’s Se7en, in which Batman and Jim Gordon have to work together to investigate and find a serial killer who’s toying with them by leaving behind riddles in every murder scene. My word, that could be something really special. Matt Reeves’ The Batman will begin filming this November/December and is set for a summer 2021 release.
