The report stated that the company has looked into including more processing power, as well as 4K support in order to rival its competitors, namely the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The sources added that the exact specifications for the upgraded Switch model have yet to be finalised by Nintendo.
Production of the new device would only begin sometime next year, as its partners are currently busy manufacturing the current models, the sources said. Nintendo has since debuted two variations of its current gen video game console – the Switch and Switch Lite – and had recently resolved its production bottleneck, which previously hampered the company from keeping up with strong demands for both models globally.
This isn’t the first time news of an upgraded Nintendo Switch has been circulating around the industry. Earlier this year, an alleged ‘Pro’ version of the console was rumoured to be in development and would also include better hardware, as well as 4K support. However, Nintendo CEO Shuntaro Furukawa shot down the rumour, stating that the company has no plans to launch an upgraded model in 2020. That said, the possibility of this alleged new model to see a release in the next year, on the other hand, isn’t completely ruled out.
